Virtualization and Mac OS X

Again, the people at Apple Matters do get it wrong…again.

Once the furor had subsided, people started thinking about virtualization.

Well, again, a day late, and a dollar short.

Why do the people at Apple Matters make such broad stroke comments? It is as if they want their intended audience to be stupid or at least ignorant. I need to figure out why I read their webpage.

it isn’t as if we do not already we have Parallels Workstation for Mac OSX Intel in beta (currently beta4) that works very well in my tests. No need to dual boot via Apple‘s Boot Camp, and the ability to run other operating systems is the extra bonus that makes it worth the small amount of cash required for puchase worth while.

With time, we should see more virtualization projects coming down the pipe.

I have not run it yet under the other supported host operating systems (Windows XP and Linux kernel based systems), as I really don’t need to. For enterprise virtualization, I have VMWare already, and Xen is starting to look good as well.

EDIT: Oh, perhaps Chris Siebold just hates anyone with their own brain and the ability to think for themselves by referencing users as moronic luddites – look at this

Perhaps he feels that the hate must continue and that allowing users the ability to do more with their computers (even if it is Windows based applications) is something tantamount to insanity, or perhaps Windows based systems killed his puppy. Who knows, but the stupidity seems to be unending. Please, keep posting Mr. Siebold, you can always get another puppy.

  • Hey, I’m not saying you missed the joke or anything but you might want to carefully look at who exactly was referenced as the “moronic luddite” I’m right that guy you I referenced is a moronic luddite, I am sure of it (check the author’s by line, that guy sucks!)

As far as virtualization goes, it is going to be pretty useful. But the article was really about OS X being able to compete head on with Windows, and user’s fear of that scenario. I have confidence that OS X is a better solution…

  • Well, you seem to be downright negative about this whole Windows on Mac thing.

I don’t know what world you live in, but really, you are so damn negative.

Why the hate? Why the constant negativity?

Virtualization has been in Mac OSX before – Virtual PC was a version of it, it just wasn’t as ‘cool’ as todays stuff. If you think about it…it comes down to a ‘who would have thought???’ kind of question.

Computing continues to move forward and the new virtualization techniques will continue to improve and become a viable solution for many.

But don’t knock the Windows stuff, it is short sighted and very closeminded. While I trackbacked the one article, your postings caused me to give these kinds of comments, it was not the one article on its own.

I am not an expert on the OS X side, though it is my workstation OS of choice.

I am an advocate for users using what they are comfortable with and that they keep their minds open to new technologies and techniques.

Thanks for the comment, you’re welcome to come and bash me anytime :)
